Al-Ettifaq coach Steven Gerrard has opened up on the potential competition between the Saudi Professional League and the English Premier League, speaking in the post-match press conference after the draw against Al-Ahli.
“Saudi Arabia is beautiful as a country, and the people are wonderful. There is time to compete with the English Premier League, and the world now knows that the Saudi League is coming to compete with the international leagues.” he said.
The Liverpool legend has joined the Dammam-based club in the pre-season, and has led his side to make a historical start of the campaign, counting on important players like Jordan Henderson, Moussa Dembélé, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jack Hendry.
