Al-Ahli coach Matthias Jaissle has spoken in the post-match press conference after the important win against Al-Riyadh at the 12th round of the Saudi Professional League, this Sunday.
“I am proud of the players and the reaction they showed today, after being eliminated from the cup.” he said.
He added: “We played with the same approach with different names, and Firmino suffered a bruise in the last confrontation, and he provided great support to the players from the substitute bench.”
He continued: “Riyad Mahrez is a talented and flexible player, whether playing on the wide side or in depth, and we want to benefit from him as much as possible.
The coach and players have received ‘boos’ from their own supporters earlier this week after the elimination of the cup, but this victory would be important to reconcilate with them.
The gaffer has commented on his relationship with them: “It is my wish that the support is always mutual between us and the fans, who are our constant fuel. And fluctuations sometimes happen in football.”
He concluded: “We work as a team every day not to concede goals, and this matter does not only concern the defenders, but rather the entire group.”
