Al-Ittihad superstar striker Karim Benzema is surely not living his best season in his long footballing career, but on the other hand, and it terms of pure open-play addition, it is not as bad as some might make it seem.

We have previously criticized Benzema for being the captain, while Ahmed Hegazy is a better team leader, and this changed.

We have touched on the fact that the player should stop forcing with penalty-kicks, even though it was discovered later that he wasn’t actually the one taking the initiative to shot the latest one.

But we have barely criticized his open-play qualities on the pitch, because he was fairly good at it this season, most notably, when he finds teammates with enough technical maturity to combine with.

Benzema has scored own-goals, caused penalty-kicks for his own team, missed a bunch of decisive spot-kicks, but nobody is talking about his great playmaking for the team, which is proved by his average key passes per game and big chances created, in which he is topping his team’s list.

Also, when it comes to goal contributions, he is already at 20 G+A in 2101 minutes, which is more than decent.

On top of that, his Sofascore rating is the second best in the team, with more than 7.50 so far.

The campaign of Benzema was not bad in terms of performances, but it rather bad because it was marked with several negative moments.
